Cozumel, Quintana Roo — Cozumel has confirmed it will host the first Triathlon of Magical Towns, an event aimed at strengthening the island’s position as a hub for sports and cultural tourism, according to Elías Farah Ceh, Director of Tourism.

Farah Ceh led a working meeting to finalize logistical details for the competition, scheduled for October. The meeting included José Luis Sosa Limón, national president of the Mexican Council of Sports Tourism (COMETUD), and David Callejas Allam, the council’s operations director. Discussions focused on security, mobility, and logistics to ensure the success of the unprecedented event.

“This triathlon will put Cozumel back on the map of the Magical Towns, with a sports product that makes us a spearhead,” Farah Ceh said. “Cozumel will be the first venue for this event thanks to its organizational capacity and the unique characteristics of the island, which are unmatched for triathlon.”

Following the meeting, officials toured strategic sites that will be part of the competition to verify conditions and define key points for the organization. Farah Ceh noted that the experience gained since 2009, when Cozumel hosted its first Ironman, has been crucial in making this new event possible.

The official announcement was made during the 50th edition of the Tianguis Turístico, held from April 27 to 30, 2026, in Acapulco, Guerrero. The event aims to attract national and international athletes, generate economic revenue, and reinforce Cozumel’s cultural and historical identity as a Magical Town.

Farah Ceh emphasized that coordination with COMETUD and local authorities will be key to ensuring flawless logistics. While details are still being refined, he assured full commitment to making the triathlon a benchmark and precedent within the Magical Towns strategy.
