Cancún, Quintana Roo — Chickenpox cases have surged in Quintana Roo over recent weeks, with health officials reporting more than 400 infections so far this year — a significant increase compared to the same period in 2025.
The outbreak has hit children particularly hard, as incomplete vaccination schedules have allowed the virus to spread quickly in schools and daycare centers, according to epidemiological reports.
Health experts note that while chickenpox is a common childhood illness and preventable through immunization, many of the current cases involve children who have not received the full vaccine series. This has facilitated transmission in settings where children gather closely.
The virus has been most active in urban areas, where constant interaction among children under 10 has led to localized outbreaks. Authorities are urging parents to monitor for symptoms such as fever and rash, and to keep infected children at home to prevent further spread.
Public health officials continue to track cases and recommend vaccination as the primary defense against the disease.
