Playa del Carmen, MX. — Security authorities responded on Tuesday to a report of human remains found in a vacant lot within the irregular settlement known as Las Torres, located behind the Bellavista neighborhood in the western part of the city.
According to preliminary information, the alert mobilized personnel from the Secretariat of Citizen Security, who upon arrival confirmed the presence of a body showing signs of dismemberment and exposure to fire.
By that time, the remains were in an advanced state of charring, according to data gathered at the scene.
The discovery occurred near the second tower of the settlement, an area of irregular growth that residents have flagged as vulnerable due to a lack of services and permanent surveillance.
After securing the perimeter, authorities notified the State Attorney General’s Office, which carried out the corresponding procedures and opened an investigation file to clarify the facts.
As of now, the identity of the victim and the possible motive for the crime have not been disclosed.
Authorities are maintaining secrecy while forensic work and evidence collection continue.
