Cancún, Quintana Roo — Avenida Bonampak will be closed to regular vehicle traffic and opened to cyclists, walkers and pets on Saturday, October 3, when Cancún holds a new edition of its nighttime open-streets event, the Paseo Cancunense Nocturno.
The free gathering runs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and is aimed at families, young people and residents of all ages who want to cross the city by bicycle, take part in recreational activities or simply spend an evening outdoors.
What the Event Offers
- Free bicycle loans, subject to availability
- Music and recreational activities
- A pet-friendly area
- Activities for children, teenagers, adults and older adults
For three hours, the avenue will be used temporarily for recreational and sports activities, allowing families to enjoy a setting far removed from the usual flow of traffic. Organizers say the event also includes group activities for those who arrive with family or friends, so the program goes beyond the bike ride itself.
Free Bicycle Loans
Residents who own a bicycle can bring it, while those who do not have one can request a loaner at the designated module during the event. The service is free, but organizers note that availability is limited.
Where and When
The event will take place on Avenida Bonampak in the municipality of Benito Juárez, one of Cancún’s main thoroughfares. Organizers chose the location to create a space for community gathering and to encourage the use of non-motorized transportation.
Bringing Pets
The Paseo Cancunense Nocturno includes a pet-friendly zone, so attendees may bring their animals. Organizers ask that pets be kept under control and that owners make sure the gathering stays safe and respectful for other participants.
The nighttime ride forms part of the recreational mobility efforts promoted in Cancún under the city’s “Cancún Nos Une por la Transformación” strategy, which seeks to give residents temporary use of public spaces for exercise and community life.
