Cancún, Quintana Roo — The Nichupté Bridge will close to vehicular traffic this Sunday, July 26, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., allowing runners, cyclists, pedestrians, and families to cross for free, Governor Mara Lezama announced.
The initiative will generally take place on the last Sunday of each month, though dates may shift if special events or conditions require a change.
During the closure, people can run, walk, skate, cycle, walk their pets, or push strollers. Authorities invited the public to enjoy the route and the views of the Nichupté lagoon system.
Lezama said the decision came after citizens who do not own cars requested a chance to see the bridge. She said the activity aims to foster community interaction, public space ownership, and peacebuilding.
The governor confirmed there will be no entry fee and noted that the bridge has helped reduce traffic on Boulevard Kukulcán. She added that a new interchange will improve connections between downtown Cancún and the hotel zone.
