Explosion Damages Cancun’s Infinity Shopping Center

An explosion took place at the Infinity Shopping Center in Cancun on the morning of September 25. The incident happened at 7:31 am at the center, located in Supermanzana 19 on Nichupté Avenue. The emergency was reported by the C5 emergency service, and response units 966 and 954, led by Inspector Gabriel Pacheco, were on site by 7:36 am. The explosion occurred on the third floor of the shopping center, specifically in the Laclicsa laboratory, causing significant property damage. This incident coincided with the effects of Hurricane Helene on the coast of the Mexican Caribbean.

Firefighters and Civil Protection personnel discovered glass, sheets, computer equipment, and laboratory materials scattered across the parking lot. The shopping center's administrator was found in an office near the explosion site and was examined by paramedics. Thankfully, he sustained no severe injuries. A thorough review of the area was conducted by the firefighters and Civil Protection to ensure no additional risks were present.

Six stationary LP gas cylinders, each with a capacity of 3,000 liters, were found on the shopping center's roof and were promptly closed. Despite the roof access door being open, a guard claimed ignorance about who had opened it. The explosion resulted in no casualties but caused damage to several offices, primarily those belonging to the Laclicsa laboratory. By 9:34 am, after confirming the absence of any risks, the firefighters departed the scene, leaving it under the supervision of Civil Protection.
