Cancún, Quintana Roo — The Benito Juárez municipality, through its General Directorate of Ecology, has launched the “Parque Kabah in 60 Seconds” short video contest to encourage environmental awareness and conservation of Cancún’s main green lung.

The initiative invites content creators, students, environmentalists, photographers, digital artists, and the general public to produce short videos focused on the preservation of the Parque Ecológico Kabah. The goal is to use digital platforms as tools to raise awareness about protecting the park’s flora and fauna.

Under the institutional slogan “Cancún unites us for transformation,” the contest seeks creative and innovative proposals that reflect the natural wealth of this urban reserve and promote a culture of respect for local ecosystems.

Contest Rules and Deadlines

Participants must submit a vertical-format video designed for platforms such as TikTok, Instagram Reels, or YouTube Shorts. The maximum duration is 60 seconds, and the content must focus on topics including:

  • Conservation of Parque Kabah
  • Biodiversity of the area
  • Respect for wildlife
  • Protection of local species
  • Importance of preserving urban natural areas

The park is home to coatis, iguanas, birds, and various species typical of the Quintana Roo lowland jungle.

Only the first 30 registered participants will be accepted due to the evaluation committee’s operational capacity. Videos must not be published on personal social media before the official results announcement; any content shared before June 5 will be automatically disqualified.

Submissions are open until May 27. Evaluation will take place from May 28 to June 3, and the awards ceremony is scheduled for Friday, June 5, as part of World Environment Day.

Prizes

The judging panel will select the top three productions based on creativity, visual impact, environmental message, and narrative quality. The cash prizes are:

  • First place: 3,000 pesos
  • Second place: 2,000 pesos
  • Third place: 1,000 pesos

Interested participants should send their final video along with their full name and contact information to areasnaturales2427@gmail.com.
