Cancún Hoteliers Plan Rate Hikes of Up to 35% for Winter Season

Cancún, Quintana Roo — The tourism sector in Cancún, Puerto Morelos and Isla Mujeres is preparing a joint strategy to head off a price war and recover some of the commercial value lost during recent holiday periods.

The next edition of the region’s Travel Mart will serve as the platform for negotiating the commercial terms of the winter season, with the expectation of pushing hotel rates up by between 25 and 35 percent. The event is scheduled for October 21 to 23 at the Iberostar hotel.

The goal is to reverse the pressure that in 2024 and 2025 drove prices as much as 10 percent below previously registered levels. The recovery would focus mainly on properties that have renovated their facilities and offer a differentiated tourism product.

Beyond raising prices, the strategy calls for protecting the value of the Mexican Caribbean as a destination and avoiding competition based only on discounts. The shared position within the industry is that demand also responds to the quality of hotels, experiences and services on offer.

393 Delegates Expected From 18 Countries

The gathering will bring together buyers and representatives of tourism companies from a range of international markets. As of September 11, participants from 18 countries had been confirmed, with registration showing 93 buyer companies and 178 delegates, plus 90 supplier companies with 215 representatives — a preliminary total of 393 attendees.

Organizers expect to surpass the results of the previous edition, which drew 300 delegates from 111 companies and generated around 4,000 business meetings. The winter season is considered one of the most commercially important periods for the region and is seen as key to strengthening bookings for the final months of the year.
