Mexico City — A Mexican judge has ordered pretrial detention for Alejandro Mario “N,” the brother-in-law of television host Ines Gomez Mont, on charges of tax fraud, the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) announced Sunday.
Alejandro Mario was arrested in Cancun, Quintana Roo, and is accused of failing to pay income tax for the 2016 fiscal year, causing losses to the federal treasury, according to the FGR.
The FGR, led by Ernestina Godoy, said the case is separate from the ongoing extradition proceedings for Gomez Mont and her husband, businessman Victor Manuel “N,” who are wanted in Mexico on charges of embezzlement, organized crime, and money laundering involving 3 billion pesos (about $150 million).
Both remain fugitives, with Interpol Red Notices issued for their arrest. Victor Manuel was arrested in the United States in September 2025 but was released on bail. His next court hearing is scheduled for November 2026, and Mexican authorities are working to strengthen their formal extradition request.
Gomez Mont also faces a provisional arrest warrant for extradition, and the FGR continues to prepare the formal request required by U.S. authorities.
The couple is accused of running a shell company scheme to facilitate tax evasion, divert public funds, and launder money.
