Man’s Body Found in Cancún Hotel Zone Beach Waters

Cancún, Mexico — Emergency services mobilized extensively in Cancún’s hotel zone after the discovery of a man’s body floating beneath the Calinda Bridge, near kilometer 4 of the Kukulcán Boulevard. Authorities believe this could be the first drowning case of the current vacation season.

Discovery and Initial Response

The emergency call was received via 911 around 8:00 a.m. Witnesses reported seeing a body floating near an area known as "Los Barcos Piratas." The victim was described as wearing a red-and-yellow polo shirt, denim pants, and black shoes.

Tourist Police officers arrived at the scene and confirmed the deceased was a heavyset man approximately 40 years old. Since the body remained in the water, lifeguards, Civil Protection personnel, and firefighters assisted in retrieving it and placing it on the sand.

Investigation Underway

The State Attorney General’s Office was notified, and forensic experts conducted the necessary procedures before transporting the body—still unidentified—to the Medical Forensic Service (Semefo) for an autopsy. Authorities will await official identification by family members.

Preliminary reports suggest the man may have fallen from the Calinda Bridge, as he was still wearing his shoes. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses to determine whether the incident was accidental or involved foul play.

The Ministerial Police have launched an investigation to clarify the circumstances surrounding the death.
