At Least 10 Shots Fired at Tulum Office Building, Triggering Major Police Response

Tulum, Quintana Roo — Gunmen fired at least 10 rounds into an office building in this resort town early Saturday, shattering windows and prompting a large deployment of police. No one was reported injured.

The attack took place around 4:05 a.m. on Calle Sol Poniente, in front of the Cancha Maya. According to initial reports from the scene, the shots struck mainly the windows and the facade of the offices, which were apparently used by a lawyer.

Municipal and state police officers responded to reports of the gunfire and set up a security perimeter around the property. Investigators cordoned off the area to preserve evidence and allow State Prosecutor’s Office personnel to carry out their work.

Officers recovered several spent shell casings at the site, which were collected for analysis as part of the investigation into how the attack unfolded and who took part in it.

Authorities have not announced any arrests or publicly identified a motive. Investigators are still working to determine the type of weapon used and the precise number of shots fired, and to establish whether the attack specifically targeted the people who use the offices or was tied to some other circumstance involving the property.

Although the shooting left no one wounded, it marked another armed episode in an urban area of Tulum and raised concern about the use of firearms in spaces where residents, workers and visitors pass through daily.

For the tourism destination, incidents of this kind carry a negative impact by undermining the perception of safety and projecting an image of violence that can affect the confidence of residents, business owners and travelers.
