ISLA MUJERES, MX — An armed attack occurred on Thursday afternoon in the Centauro neighborhood, resulting in the death of a man, who was apparently the victim of his girlfriend's former partner.
The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon while the victim was installing a water pump. According to witnesses, the assailant arrived at that moment and shot the man five to six times before fleeing the scene.
In response to the events, witnesses alerted emergency number 911, prompting the mobilization of the Isla Mujeres Municipal Police, as well as paramedics from the Red Cross.
Moments later, the victim's family members arrived. They indicated that the 24-year-old man had problems with his current girlfriend's former partner, who had even threatened to take his life.
Given the direct accusation, officials from the State Attorney General's Office indicated that this event could be related to a crime of passion, although no possible line of investigation has been ruled out.
The body was ultimately transported to the facilities of the Forensic Medical Service, where a legally required autopsy will be performed. His family is expected to claim the body in the coming hours.
