On September 6, 2024, in Solidaridad, Quintana Roo, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) delivered the first 1,600 deeds to families in the Colonia Colosio. Speaking from the Playa del Carmen station of the Maya Train, AMLO emphasized the importance of owning a deed, stating it brings peace of mind to families. He acknowledged the role of Quintana Roo's governor, María Elena Lezama Espinosa, in fulfilling this commitment.
President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo joined AMLO for the event. AMLO praised Quintana Roo's original population for their warm welcome to Mexicans from different states during difficult times. He pointed out that his administration had prioritized the southeast region, resulting in significant growth and development. This growth was evident in the construction of public works like the Maya Train, which has provided employment for 600,000 people, and the Dos Bocas "Olmeca" refinery, employing 35,000 daily workers.
AMLO also announced the completion of the train from Coatzacoalcos to Salina Cruz, with the Palenque to Coatzacoalcos route soon to be finished. The next president will oversee the completion of the line from Ixtepec to Guatemala. AMLO expressed satisfaction with the progress made in the southeast, emphasizing his administration's commitment to the poor and humble.
As he prepares to hand over the presidency to Claudia Sheinbaum, AMLO expressed pride in his administration's achievements in reducing poverty. He cited a recent World Bank report, which recognized that nearly 10 million Mexicans emerged from poverty from 2018 to 2023.
President-elect Sheinbaum highlighted the importance of the Maya Train project, a 1,500 km journey around the peninsula, for the country's development. She emphasized that the federal government is fulfilling its promise to deliver deeds to the people of Quintana Roo, promoting prosperity for all. She also noted that the next government will enable freight service on the Maya Train and continue work on the InterOceanic Train, with plans to extend rail service north to the United States.
