In response to the Orange Alert issued for Tropical Storm Helene, the government of Quintana Roo has enforced a temporary alcohol ban in eight municipalities. Governor Mara Lezama announced on social media that the ban, or "dry law," would take effect from the first minute of Wednesday, September 25. The municipalities affected are Cozumel, Puerto Morelos, Isla Mujeres, Lázaro Cárdenas, Benito Juárez, Solidaridad, Tulum, and Felipe Carrillo Puerto. The sale of all alcoholic beverages is prohibited until further notice.
In addition to the alcohol ban, all classes have been suspended for Wednesday, September 25. The suspension affects all educational levels and includes both public and private institutions in the same eight municipalities. This measure has been taken to ensure the safety of students and teachers, as severe weather conditions are anticipated.
Forecasts predict torrential rain with up to 250 mm of accumulation. Wind speeds are also expected to increase, with gusts up to 70 km/h. Waves between 1 and 3 meters are expected along the coasts of Quintana Roo and Yucatán.
