Akumal, a popular tourist destination, is gearing up for the busy Easter holiday season. The area is expected to operate at full capacity, thanks to its regular visitors and unique attractions.
Manuel Jiménez, owner of H2O Adventures, a local water tour company, shared that Akumal is currently operating at 60 to 70 percent capacity. However, they aim to reach maximum occupancy during the Easter season. This is largely due to the area's impressive reefs and the opportunity for tourists to interact with sea turtles.
Jiménez highlighted the advantage Akumal has in attracting repeat visitors who frequently holiday in the area. This steady stream of loyal tourists allows the destination to maintain better rates during the low seasons, compared to other destinations such as Tulum or Playa del Carmen.
"As we do every year, we are preparing for Easter. We anticipate a good season with 80 to 90 percent or more activity. We know that national tourism is coming, and the majority of our visitors will be Mexicans rather than foreigners," he explained.
Jiménez emphasized that everyone in Akumal, from the hotels to the bay and the cooperatives, is ready for the upcoming season. He pointed out that Akumal's strategic location, nestled between major resorts like Tulum and Playa del Carmen, makes it an ideal destination for tourists.
Its proximity to the route of cenotes and theme parks, just 20 to 30 minutes away by land, makes Akumal a perfect base for those wanting to explore the Riviera Maya and enjoy its natural beauty.
Jiménez insisted that Akumal offers various tourist attractions that are recognized and appreciated by both Mexican and international tourists.
