Celebrate World Blood Donor Day with Mara Lezama’s Inspiring Mission

Four people linking arms in front of a colorful mural related to blood donation featuring phrases like "Blood Donor Day," "Donate Blood Save Lives," and symbols including blood drops, hearts, and medical imagery. The mural also contains words in a different language, suggestive of a culturally inclusive event. The volunteers are wearing white shirts with a blood donation campaign logo.

Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa highlighted the importance of blood donation during the World Blood Donor Day 2024. She described it as an act of love and a noble gesture that can significantly impact someone's life. She shared inspiring stories of people whose lives have been transformed through this selfless act.

Lezama visited the State Center for Transfusion Medicine in Quintana Roo to inspect the facilities and promote voluntary, unpaid blood donations. Her aim is to ensure a reliable and safe supply of this crucial resource while raising awareness about the importance of regular donations. This can help prevent shortages in hospitals and clinics and avoid low reserves.

Lezama emphasized that many people rely on our goodwill for transfusions, whether they're battling diseases or recovering from accidents. She proudly stated that Quintana Roo is home to a comfortable and safe State Center for Blood Transfusion. The first phase of this center is located in the Blood Bank of Chetumal.

Lezama urged everyone to become altruistic donors and make a difference in the lives of those who need it most. She outlined the requirements for donation: donors should be between 18 and 65 years old, weigh more than 50 kilos, fast for at least 4 hours, be in good health, and have not taken any medication in the last 15 days.

On World Blood Donor Day, she expressed her gratitude to all those who have donated blood, praising their empathy and selflessness in the crucial mission of saving lives. "Remember, there is no greater wealth in the world than life and health. Donating blood is giving life," she affirmed.
