Cancún, MX — A man was shot and killed this morning in downtown Cancún, just meters away from bases of the National Guard and the Fire Department. The armed attack was reported around 7 a.m. when neighbors and witnesses heard at least five gunshots.

Police and paramedics from the Red Cross immediately arrived at Supermanzana 23, near Tulum Avenue, and found a man lying in the public roadway who no longer showed signs of life. The victim was a man approximately 30 years old, of medium build, with a dark complexion, wearing a green t-shirt and jeans.

According to preliminary information, the victim was a construction worker who was allegedly on his way to his work shift when he was intercepted by subjects on a motorcycle, who shot him directly before fleeing to an unknown location.

Despite the proximity to the Security Complex (C5), authorities were unable to track the assailants in real time, which allowed them to escape without major difficulty.

The area was cordoned off while personnel from the Forensic Services and the Investigative Police carried out the corresponding procedures for the removal of the body. The State Attorney General's Office has initiated an investigation file to clarify the homicide and locate those responsible. (Agencia SIM)
