Playa del Carmen, Mexico — Approximately 50 tourists endured a tense situation on Monday afternoon after becoming trapped in the underground river circuit at Xplor Park due to an electrical failure that disrupted lighting inside one of the caverns along the route.

Preliminary reports indicate that the power outage occurred while visitors were inside the water tunnel, preventing their exit for over an hour. Park staff activated safety protocols and successfully evacuated all tourists without any reported injuries.
A municipal government source confirmed that no additional emergencies required attention following an inspection. Alarming reports circulated on social media, prompting emergency responders to arrive at the scene, though authorities verified that the situation had been resolved.
Park Operator’s Response
Grupo Xcaret, the park’s operator, stated in a release that the outage was temporary and occurred in a cavern with artificial lighting. The company emphasized that the issue was addressed immediately and operations resumed normally.
“The safety of our visitors is our top priority. All our facilities and activities operate under strict safety protocols and supervision,” the company said.
