Cancun, Quintana Roo — The 14th edition of the Mexican Caribbean Ocean Festival will take place from May 30 to June 7, offering a free program of art, music, film, and community activities across three municipalities: Puerto Morelos, Benito Juarez, and Solidaridad.
Organized by Delphinus, the festival aims to foster a deeper connection between people and the ocean through culture and environmental education. Since its launch in 2013, the event has grown into the region’s most important environmental education initiative, using art as a bridge between scientific knowledge and community awareness.
Community Art and Environmental Action in Puerto Morelos
The festival kicks off on May 30 in Puerto Morelos with the unveiling of a commemorative mural titled “The Ocean is Our Home” by Acapulco-born artist and illustrator Miguel Castillo Vivas. Located at Parque Fundadores, the mural is designed to strengthen the bond between local identity and the marine environment.
That same day, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., a beach and mangrove cleanup will take place, emphasizing community participation and shared responsibility for coastal ecosystems.
Art and Education at Cancun International Airport
On June 1, Terminal 4 of Cancun International Airport will host the opening of the Ocean Festival Exhibition, featuring selected works from the Children and Youth Drawing Contest. This year, the contest received 758 drawings from elementary, middle, and high school students: 106 from Quintana Roo, 475 from other parts of Mexico, and 177 from 13 countries including Argentina, Bolivia, Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, Spain, the United States, Honduras, India, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, and the Dominican Republic.
The award ceremony for contest winners will take place from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., recognizing art as a key tool for fostering a new generation committed to ocean conservation.
Music, Fashion, and Stage Performances in Cancun
On June 5, the Teatro de la Ciudad in Cancun will host the Concert for the Ocean, featuring the return of the military band from the X Military Region of the Mexican Army. For the first time, the event will also include the Ocean Fashion Show, a multimedia experience combining music, imagery, and design to convey messages of marine conservation.
Closing Event in Playa del Carmen
The festival will conclude on June 7 in Playa del Carmen with a Concert for the Ocean at the Xaman-Ha City Theater, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., again featuring the X Military Region band. During the concert, winners of the University Short Film Contest “Minutes for the Ocean” will be announced. This year, 107 short films were submitted by university students from China, Colombia, Ecuador, the United States, Guatemala, Mexico, and Peru.
The 14th Mexican Caribbean Ocean Festival is supported by institutional and cultural partners including ASUR (airport operator), Anahuac University Cancun, the state Secretariat of Environment, Animal Welfare and Sustainable Mobility, the municipalities of Puerto Morelos and Benito Juarez, and the Mexican Army. Delphinus serves as the main sponsor and organizer.
