Zenith Aeronautica Sets August Deadline for $24M Chetumal Aviation Project

Chetumal, Quintana Roo — Seven months after the state government signed a letter of intent with Zenith Aeronautica to establish a deep maintenance and repair base for aircraft and a cargo service center at the Polo de Desarrollo Económico para el Bienestar (Economic Development Hub for Well-being) in Chetumal, the company’s CEO, Guillermo Romero, presented the integrated project to business leaders and academic representatives. The plan involves an investment of just over $24 million and a commitment to prioritize local hiring and supply chains to boost the state capital’s economy.

Romero explained that the company has been steadily meeting each requirement to begin construction starting in August on a 12,000-square-meter site within the Chetumal airport. The project will also include a building within the federal government’s development hub.

During a two-hour working meeting, Romero detailed that the investment covers an air operations base to connect the state capital with Central American countries and states in Mexico’s southeastern region; an aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul workshop; a cargo terminal at Chetumal International Airport; and an industrial facility at the Economic Development Hub. This infrastructure is designed to strengthen logistics, boost local supply chains, and generate specialized jobs for Quintana Roo residents.

Romero noted that the company has begun working with higher education institutions on a dual education model that applies classroom knowledge to the project’s production systems.

He acknowledged the coordination efforts of the state’s Economy and Economic Development secretariats, as well as Governor Mara Lezama’s push to attract investment to the southern zone as part of her policy to consolidate the state capital’s economy.

Business leaders expressed confidence in the start of the Zenith Aeronautica project and the process the company has followed to achieve concrete results, particularly the socialization of the integrated project, which provides certainty that all requirements are being met.
