Merida, Yucatan — The Yucatan government is moving forward with preparations for K’iwiik: Maya World Tourism Fair 2026, a priority project aimed at strengthening the state’s position as a regional and international tourism destination.

The Tourism Promotion Secretariat (Sefotur) and the Maya World Organization are leading the initiative. Organizers held a working session of the Organizing Committee at the International Congress Center, bringing together state officials, business and cultural sector representatives, and organizations linked to the meetings industry.

Yucatan Tourism Secretary Darío Flota Ocampo led the meeting, emphasizing the importance of the coordinated effort to revitalize tourism promotion for the Maya World region. “K’iwiik 2026 represents a coordinated effort that seeks to give new impetus to the tourism promotion of the Maya World,” Flota Ocampo said.

Officials first presented the initiative at the 49th edition of Mexico’s Tianguis Turístico tourism fair, proposing to revive the event that until 2013 positioned Yucatan as a key meeting point in the region.

The project has support from the Mexican government through the Tourism Secretariat, as well as consensus from the countries and states that make up the Maya World Organization, which allowed Merida to be designated as the host city for the 2026 edition.

K’iwiik will serve as an international platform to promote the cultural, natural, and human wealth of the Maya World while fostering strategic alliances and community tourism.

The fair will take place from June 2 to 5 at the Yucatan Siglo XXI Convention Center. Delegations from Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, and Honduras are expected to participate, along with the Mexican states of Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche, Quintana Roo, and Yucatan.

Organizers announced they received more than 265 applications to participate as invited buyers, with 116 already confirmed after a review process. Of that total, 32% come from the United States, 19% from Canada, 22% from Latin America, 10% from Europe, and 17% from the rest of the world.

The fair will bring together exhibitors from the region with tourism offerings designed to project the Maya World globally. Those interested in participating as buyers, exhibitors, or partners can visit https://www.feriadelmundomaya.com/
