Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The Hacienda Henequenera at Xcaret Park will host the third edition of the Xcaret Mexican Folk Art Fair from September 24 to 27, bringing together more than 150 master artisans from various states across the country.
The event aims to strengthen the preservation of Mexico’s cultural heritage by promoting traditional techniques passed down through generations, while also creating opportunities for artisans to sell their work directly to the public without intermediaries.
Over the four days, visitors can purchase pieces directly from the creators and learn about the craftsmanship behind each work. The program includes demonstrations of artisanal processes, fashion shows, conferences, contests, and various cultural expressions that highlight the history and meaning of each creation.
Leticia Aguerrebere, corporate director of Art and Culture at Grupo Xcaret, emphasized that the initiative seeks to recognize the work of those who keep the country’s artisanal traditions alive, while opening spaces to strengthen their economy and preserve ancestral knowledge that forms part of Mexico’s cultural identity.
The results from the previous edition underscore the platform’s growth. In 2025, 289 artisans from 22 states and 18 indigenous communities participated, consolidating a space for representation of diverse expressions of Mexican folk art.
Economically, the fair recorded sales of 23.3 million pesos (about $1.2 million), and 95% of participants established new commercial contacts for future business opportunities. The workshops involved employ approximately 2,360 people, 66% of whom are women, reflecting the social and economic impact of this initiative in numerous communities across the country.
With the 2026 edition, Grupo Xcaret aims to expand the reach of this cultural gathering, strengthening a fair-trade model that directly benefits artisan families and helps preserve one of the most representative expressions of Mexico’s cultural heritage.
