ViveMICE 2026 to Boost Mexican Caribbean Business Tourism in Playa Mujeres

Cancun, Quintana Roo — The Mexican Caribbean, already a leader in the meetings industry, is set to further strengthen its position with the announcement of the 6th edition of ViveMICE 2026, to be held in Playa Mujeres.

The meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) sector accounts for 25% of Quintana Roo’s tourism activity, with a focus on professionalization and creating purpose-driven experiences for a global market that demands constant innovation and environmental sustainability.

“You know that every three days we have new hotels, new brands, rebranding, and more inventory — this is a constant evolution of the destination. We have to stay updated, and this year the confirmed event dates are from August 31 to September 3,” said Guadalupe Ávila, president of MPI Mexican Caribbean.

Growth is reflected in a 13% increase in specialized employment, Ávila noted. The industry prioritizes local suppliers, integrating musicians, artisans, and technicians into a value chain that directly benefits the community and strengthens the economy through world-class professional services.

The sector has shown remarkable resilience, attracting new flows from Canada that offset variations in other international markets. The current offering integrates wellness and culture, allowing hotels in the area to allocate up to 40% of their inventory to this dynamic, experiential, and high-yield segment.

Liliana Cabrera, project manager of ViveMICE, said that with projections reaching 2030, business tourism boosts local commerce through per-visitor spending significantly higher than that of traditional travelers.

“You hire those who create experiences with details, those who generate experiences, or even local artisans. International meeting planners are now working heavily on sustainability information as well,” she said.
