Holbox, Lázaro Cárdenas — A man was fatally shot on the beach in front of Hotel Xalok in the early hours of Tuesday, reigniting concerns over drug-related violence on the island.
The attack occurred around 3:00 a.m., when the victim, a man between 25 and 30 years old, was struck by a bullet and died at the scene. Witnesses reported that the deceased was allegedly involved in drug sales and had previously received threats from a rival criminal group demanding he cease his activities.
Municipal police officers responded to reports of the homicide but did not cordon off the area. Later, personnel from the State Attorney General’s Office arrived to begin investigative procedures but similarly failed to secure the crime scene or establish protective measures near the hotel where the body lay.
The victim’s remains were eventually removed without preserving the perimeter or collecting visible evidence. No arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
The killing underscores the persistent violence linked to drug trafficking in Holbox, raising further alarms about security in the region.
