Valladolid Wins National Award for Culinary Experience at 2026 Tianguis Turistico

Valladolid receives award for best gastronomic experience in a magical town at Tianguis Turistico 2026

Valladolid, Yucatan — The municipality of Valladolid has been named the winner of the “Best Gastronomic Experience in a Magical Town” award at the 2026 edition of Lo Mejor de Mexico, organized by Mexico Desconocido magazine, solidifying its status as one of the country’s most attractive destinations.

The award ceremony took place during the 2026 Tianguis Turistico de Mexico in Acapulco, where national and international tourism sector representatives witnessed the recognition of the town’s culinary richness.

Darío Flota Ocampo received the award on behalf of Valladolid, highlighting the importance of the local gastronomy as a key element of the region’s cultural identity and tourist appeal.

Valladolid stands out within the state for its culinary tradition, being the only municipality with three emblematic original dishes: lomitos, longaniza de Valladolid, and escabeche. These recipes, passed down through generations, represent a living cultural heritage that continues to attract visitors.

During the tourism showcase, the destination maintained an active presence, promoting its cultural, natural, and gastronomic offerings to travel agencies and tour operators from countries including Spain, Colombia, and France.

Promotional strategies are also being strengthened through digital platforms, media interviews, and partnerships with other destinations across the country, expanding the municipality’s reach into new markets.

Tourism Director Argelina Ontiveros Sánchez has driven various promotional actions, including meetings with international representatives, helping to position Valladolid on global stages.

With this recognition, the Magical Town reaffirms its place as a competitive destination where tradition, culture, and flavor serve as its main calling card.
