Cancún — Vacation rentals in Quintana Roo, including platforms such as Airbnb, are projected to end the year with a 6% decline in occupancy, a figure similar to that reported by the state's hotel sector, according to Manuel Lozano, a representative of the Association of Vacation Rental Administrators. The announcement was made during the presentation of the seventh edition of the Expo Renta Vacacional (Exporv).
Adjustments in Lodging Supply Among Causes for the Decrease
The representative explained that the downturn is due to multiple factors, including a reduction in the number of visitors from the United States—the primary market for the Mexican Caribbean—as well as an adjustment in the lodging supply. This adjustment has been prompted by both the decrease in tourists and new fiscal regulations that require landlords to register with the SAT (Tax Administration Service) and obtain an operating license.
Lozano highlighted that, compared to the previous year, the average occupancy in this type of accommodation fell from 14.6% to 13.7%, reflecting a cooling in demand and increased competition for availability among hosts.
Expo Renta Vacacional to be Held from November 19 to 22 at Cancún Center
Despite the current outlook, the industry aims to reinforce its professionalization and positioning with the Expo Renta Vacacional, which will hold its seventh edition from November 19 to 22 at the Cancún Center.
The event will bring together hosts, professionals, and investors from the sector, who will participate in conferences, networking spaces, and the expo show. The objective is to exchange strategies, strengthen alliances, and analyze trends to confront the new challenges of the market.
