Tulum, Quintana Roo — Police arrested two suspects following a major security operation launched after gunmen opened fire on a home in Tulum on Tuesday afternoon.
The attack occurred in the irregular settlement of Andrés Manuel López Obrador, prompting a large-scale police mobilization across the municipality. According to preliminary reports, assailants arrived in a blue Chevrolet Chevy and fired multiple shots at the building’s facade before fleeing the area.
Municipal police, state police, investigators from the Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office, Mexican Navy personnel, and National Guard officers participated in the search operation across various neighborhoods. Hours later, an anonymous tip led authorities to the vehicle’s location in the Mayapax neighborhood, where they reactivated the security operation and detained two individuals allegedly connected to the shooting.
During the intervention, officers seized a firearm, live ammunition, and multiple doses of drugs, which were secured as evidence for the ongoing investigation. Preliminary information suggests the detainees may be linked to a violent group operating in the municipal seat.
Authorities stated that coordination between security agencies was crucial in locating the vehicle and apprehending the suspects, who have been turned over to the appropriate authorities for legal proceedings.
