Cancún, Quintana Roo — Two men have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a woman in the city’s Region 235 neighborhood, state prosecutors announced Monday.
The victim, identified as Mariana N., was shot to death on Thursday. Her body was left on Calle 116, and investigators say a threatening banner was placed near it.
Raciel López Salazar, head of the State Prosecutor’s Office, identified the suspects as Azael Abdiel N., 18, known by the alias “El Monkey,” and César Javier N., 23, nicknamed “Lucifer.” He said both are believed to have directly participated in the killing.
During their arrests, authorities seized a firearm, dried marijuana and two motorcycles. The prosecutor said the main line of investigation points to street-level drug dealing, and that other people are believed to be involved. The investigation continues.
The two suspects were brought before a judge, who ordered them held in pretrial detention while the criminal case proceeds.
