Tulum, Quintana Roo — A worker was injured after suffering an electric shock while performing maintenance on a utility pole, authorities said.
The incident occurred on Avenida Tulum near the Cumex Aire Acondicionado business. The worker, an employee of the company Teleco, was working on the pole when one of his tools came into contact with a low-voltage line. The shock caused him to lose his balance and fall about four meters to the pavement, according to witnesses.
Bystanders called 911. Civil protection personnel and municipal paramedics arrived at the scene and provided pre-hospital care. The worker was reported in stable condition with no life-threatening injuries, but remained under observation while officials determined whether he needed to be taken to a hospital for further evaluation.
The area was cordoned off during the emergency response to protect pedestrians and motorists. Authorities also inspected the electrical installation to rule out additional hazards.
An investigation has been opened to determine the cause of the accident and whether proper safety protocols were followed. No other injuries were reported.
