Tulum, Quintana Roo — Residents and tourism service providers in Tulum plan to hold a peaceful protest on Sunday, May 3, at the Glorieta de las Ruinas to voice concerns over beach access and the management of the Jaguar Park.

The call, circulated on social media, invites participants to gather at 9:30 a.m. Organizers aim to bring together various community sectors that have expressed dissatisfaction with changes in beach access, as well as fees and regulations imposed in the area.

According to organizers, the goal is to create a space for citizens to express concerns about issues they say have affected the local economy and tourism-related activities.

“It is a call to participate in an orderly and respectful manner, to speak out about what is happening,” they stated.

The protest is directed at residents, tourism workers, business owners, artisans, athletes, and people from nearby communities, including Akumal, Macario Gomez, Francisco Uh May, and Felipe Carrillo Puerto.

Organizers emphasized that the initiative is nonpartisan and focused on raising concerns about the use of and access to public spaces, particularly coastal areas.

As of now, authorities responsible for managing the Jaguar Park have not issued an official response to the protest call.

On April 23, during the 45th anniversary of the Tulum National Park, members of the same group held a brief protest at the Jaguar Park against policies of the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas (Conanp), beach restrictions, and the management of the public space.
