Tulum Officials Deny False Rumors About Mayor’s Health Emergency

An ambulance in Tulum, Mexico, which was involved in transporting a municipal employee, not the mayor as falsely rumored on social media.

Tulum, Quintana Roo — Tulum officials on Thursday debunked false social media rumors claiming Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo had been rushed to the hospital in an ambulance, clarifying that the emergency vehicle transported a municipal education department employee instead.

The Tulum City Hall issued an official statement denying the unverified information and confirming the mayor experienced no health issues. Officials explained that the ambulance mobilization followed standard protocols after a female municipal employee suffered a health complication.

According to the official report, ambulance 006Q from the Municipal Health Department, operated by Erick Salvador Ramos, transported the employee to Costa Med Medical Center, where she received hospital treatment. The municipal government reported the patient was discharged the same day and remains stable under medical supervision.

In the statement, City Hall emphasized the falsity of the social media claims. “The information circulating on some media and social networks regarding an alleged ambulance transfer of the municipal president is completely false,” the statement read.

The statement also urged citizens and media outlets to verify information before sharing it to prevent the spread of false content.

The unconfirmed rumors began circulating Thursday morning, causing confusion among social media users who shared claims about an alleged medical incident involving the mayor without official substantiation.
