Mérida, Mexico – An armed attack on Monday afternoon in the coastal municipality of Dzilam González resulted in three fatalities, including a 16-year-old minor, in a violent incident that has generated alarm and consternation among the population.
According to official information, the events occurred on a property located on Calle 10 por 17 in the Taiwan neighborhood, which was used as a horse training ring and exercise area. Armed individuals arrived at the location in a truck and on a motorcycle, from where they fired repeatedly at the people present before fleeing the scene.
Initially, the Secretariat of Public Security reported two fatalities and two others seriously injured. However, hours later, the death of a third person was confirmed, though it was not specified whether it occurred at the attack site or while receiving medical attention.
Preliminary reports indicate that among the victims is a minor who performed horse care duties, information that was reported from the first moments of the attack by witnesses and injured individuals who requested assistance.
Regarding these events, Yucatán Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena described the crime as an “atypical fact” in the state and stated that, according to preliminary information from security authorities, the attack is believed to be related to a conflict between families who recently arrived in the area from the community of Limones in the state of Quintana Roo.
The state leader indicated that there are already lines of investigation and information about possible perpetrators, expressing confidence that the case will be clarified. However, the motive for the crime and the complete profile of the victims have not yet been revealed.
Residents of the municipality expressed concern about the magnitude of the violence, considered unusual in a region characterized by small communities and rural activities.
The incident occurs in a context where the municipality has announced various public works for 2026, such as the construction of a Public Security Center, the remodeling of the Municipal Palace, and the expansion of the community development center, though amounts and execution schedules have not yet been detailed.
