Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo — A serious crash on the Playa del Carmen–Cancún highway left one person dead and at least one injured on Tuesday morning, authorities reported.
The collision occurred around 9 a.m. near Bahía Petempich, involving a white Jetta sedan from a rental company and a gray Honda CR-V SUV. Both vehicles were traveling in the lane toward Cancún when they collided, causing significant damage to the sedan’s right side.
Police officers, paramedics, and rescue personnel responded to the scene, where they confirmed one fatality and provided aid to the injured. The injured were taken to a hospital in Cancún for specialized medical care.
Authorities conducted initial investigations and arranged for the removal of the vehicles. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
