Mexico City – The celebration of Three Kings Day faces an additional challenge for Mexican families in 2026 due to the increase in the price of the traditional rosca, an expense that adds to the economic pressures at the start of the year.
Data from the commercial sector indicates that the value of this typical bread has increased by around 20 percent compared to the previous year. In the market, the simplest options are sold from nearly 300 pesos, while larger, filled, or gourmet versions reach costs ranging between 900 and 950 pesos, especially in specialized bakeries.
This upward adjustment is observed in both small establishments and supermarkets and national chains, where the price varies according to size, ingredients, and presentation. At various points of sale, family-sized roscas exceed 500 pesos, forcing many consumers to reconsider their purchase.
The increase coincides with the general rise in food and raw material prices, a context that intensifies the January financial strain and reduces households’ spending margin after the December celebrations.
Given this situation, experts suggest comparing prices between establishments, choosing smaller portions, or sharing the cost as measures to preserve the tradition without significantly compromising family finances.
