Three Men Jailed for Attempted Murder of Foreign Woman in Merida

Three men in handcuffs being led by police officers

Merida, Yucatan — Three men have been charged with attempted aggravated murder in the shooting of a foreign woman in a residential area north of Merida, authorities said Wednesday.

The suspects, identified by their initials I.A.H.H., H.M.S.V., and F.J.G.L., were ordered held in pretrial detention as a precautionary measure.

The charges stem from an investigation by the Yucatan State Prosecutor’s Office in coordination with the Public Security Department, which led to the arrests for the May 28 attack in the northern part of the city.

During an initial hearing at the Merida Oral Justice Center, prosecutors presented the charges and requested that the case proceed to trial. However, the three defendants invoked their right to extend the constitutional deadline for determining their legal status, so the hearing will continue on June 12.

According to criminal case file 325/2026, authorities received a report of a woman with a gunshot wound outside a home. Investigators determined the alleged involvement of the victim’s ex-partner, a Jordanian national, and two other men, who were later located and arrested in the state of Colima.

Before the hearing concluded, prosecutors requested the imposition of justified pretrial detention, which the judge granted.
