Isla Mujeres — In an atmosphere filled with youthful energy and environmental awareness, Aguakan celebrated the 17th edition of its "Water Rally," christened this year as "The Rally of the Famous," amidst the natural beauty of Isla Mujeres.
More than 100 young people from Benito Juárez, Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen, and Isla Mujeres gathered to participate in this competition, which aims to strengthen the commitment to the care of water resources.
The 2025 edition incorporated a dynamic inspired by historical figures who have left their mark in areas such as art, science, technology, and the humanities. This approach sought not only to motivate the participants but also to connect environmental learning with figures who have transformed the world.
The attendees formed 20 teams of six members each, who throughout the day overcame more than 20 tests focused on agility, strength, balance, and mental skill. Each completed challenge awarded points represented as water droplets, incentivizing both competition and reflection on the importance of water and caring for the planet.
After overcoming the challenges, the "Marie Curie" team was crowned champion of this seventeenth edition, winning a laptop for each of its six members as a prize.
During the event, engineer Isaí Vergara emphasized the value this rally has held over its 17 years of existence as a key tool for environmental education.
"We are proud to see so many young people here this morning, and I want us to make a commitment… to take with us that message about caring for our water resources," he stated. He recalled that the issue of water is today a matter that "concerns and occupies nations" all over the world.
In turn, Axel Canche, Director of the Isla Mujeres Youth Institute, acknowledged the collaboration with Aguakan and thanked the young people for their participation, highlighting the coordinated work with the administration headed by Municipal President Atenea Gómez Ricalde.
"We are raising awareness on all environmental issues from the government," he affirmed.
The rally was once again consolidated as a activity with broad social impact, through which Aguakan promotes environmental responsibility through play and competition, sowing in the new generations a deeper commitment to the conservation of natural resources and the future of the planet.
The event was carried out with the support of the Municipality of Isla Mujeres, the Directorate of Youth, Ultramar, GTK, the Mía Foundation, and Grupo Megamedia.
