Taxi Driver Banned for Life After Attack

Playa del Carmen, Mexico — A taxi driver affiliated with the “Lázaro Cárdenas del Río” union has been permanently suspended from operating after physically assaulting a driver for a digital app in downtown Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo.

The incident took place at the intersection of 4th Street between 10th and 15th Avenues. According to witness reports, an apparent dispute over passenger fares escalated, culminating in the taxi driver attacking the app-based driver. The altercation necessitated the intervention of local authorities.

Following an analysis of the event, the Quintana Roo Mobility Institute (Imoveqroo) imposed a ban prohibiting the aggressor from driving public transportation anywhere in the state. This sanction was subsequently followed by the driver's permanent expulsion from his union.

The agency reiterated that such conduct will not be tolerated. It stated that these sanctions are intended to help guarantee the safety of both transportation users and operators throughout the state.
