Cancún Real Estate Scam: 12M Peso Fraud Exposed

CANCÚN, MX — The State Attorney General's Office (FGE) has executed arrest warrants against Luis Ernesto "N" and Cristopher Mahanaim "N", who are accused of alleged involvement in various frauds related to the buying and selling of real estate in this municipality.

According to the ministerial authority, the two detainees are linked to 22 open investigation files, which together represent a total patrimonial loss of 12 million pesos to the victims.

The investigations established that the accused would meet interested buyers at public notary offices, where contracts for professional real estate mediation and legal services were signed. Subsequently, the buyers were summoned to another notary office to sign contracts for litigious rights, which were endorsed by a notary and the legal representative of a supposed real estate company. These contracts committed to delivering the property within a six-month period and to registering it with the Public Property Registry.

However, upon going to this institution, the buyers discovered that the properties were never in their names, as they belonged to third parties unrelated to the transactions.

Following their arrest, Luis Ernesto "N" and Cristopher Mahanaim "N" were placed at the disposal of the judicial authority that requested them, where their legal status will be determined within the constitutional timeframe.
