Sheinbaum Announces Agreement to Lower Credit Card and Fuel Voucher Fees at Gas Stations

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum speaking at a morning press conference, announcing a deal to lower credit card and voucher fees at gas stations.

Mexico City — President Claudia Sheinbaum announced Monday that the government has reached an agreement with the Mexican Banking Association (ABM) to reduce fees on credit card, debit card, and fuel voucher payments at gas stations nationwide.

The measure aims to lower the final cost of regular gasoline, premium gasoline, and diesel for consumers, Sheinbaum said during her daily morning press conference.

“Today we are going to announce the reduction of fees on payments for gasoline and diesel, both for those who pay with credit or debit cards and for those who use vouchers,” Sheinbaum said.

The agreement was coordinated by the Finance Ministry, led by Edgar Amador, together with ABM head Emilio Romano Mussali. Sheinbaum also highlighted the participation of various gasoline companies and service stations.

One of the main goals, she added, is to continue reducing the price of diesel in particular.
