Jet Ski Rams Swimmers at Cancun Beach, Injuring 5

Emergency personnel at Cancun's Forum Beach after a jet ski struck swimmers, injuring five people.

Cancun, Quintana Roo — A jet ski plowed into swimmers and beachgoers at a popular Cancun beach over the weekend, leaving five people injured, including a child in serious condition, authorities said.

The incident occurred at Forum Beach, next to an area known as Los Cubos in the hotel zone of Benito Juarez municipality, according to official reports.

Witnesses said the jet ski was being operated recklessly, possibly by individuals under the influence of alcohol. The driver first struck two people in the water, then sped toward the shore and hit three women on the sand.

Emergency services responded quickly, treating the injured and transporting them to hospitals, said Pablo Gutierrez, secretary general of the Benito Juarez municipal government.

Tourist police and Mexican Navy personnel secured the area and arrested the two men on the jet ski. They were turned over to the appropriate authorities for investigation.

Municipal officials said they would strengthen safety protocols and oversight of recreational vehicles on all beaches in the area.
