Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A Seven Eleven employee was fatally stabbed during a robbery at the Mayakoba complex, authorities confirmed. The victim’s wife stated the crime was not passion-related, contradicting initial speculation. Two suspects, including a minor, are in custody.
Brutal Attack in Store’s Storage Area
The victim’s body was discovered on June 6 in the store’s storage area, which lacked security cameras. He sustained over 15 stab wounds and was found partially stripped of clothing. His wife reported that assailants stole cash from the store’s safe and petty cash box, along with liquor, cigarettes, and the victim’s shirt and shoes.
Family Left Without Support
The victim’s widow accused Seven Eleven of failing to cover funeral expenses despite earlier promises. The family struggled to afford the 25,000 pesos ($1,250) demanded by the funeral home, delaying the burial for four days until community donations intervened. She also alleged that the Quintana Roo State Attorney General’s Office requested 5,000 pesos ($250) to expedite the release of the body.
Arrests Made in the Case
Authorities detained a taxi driver and a minor within 72 hours of the crime. Investigations remain ongoing to determine if additional suspects were involved.
Background of the Incident
The emergency line 911 received a report of the body in the early hours of June 6. The victim, identified as Raúl, was found in a pool of blood with stab wounds to his back. His wife emphasized that the motive was robbery, not personal conflict.
Seven Eleven has not issued a public statement regarding the allegations of withheld support.
