Cancún, Mexico — The Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT) has issued a public invitation for citizens to attend an informational meeting regarding the proposed “Cancún Multimodal Terminal,” a key component of the Maya Train project. The session, organized by Tren Maya, S.A. de C.V., will take place on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at the Gimnasio Kuchil Baxal in Cancún, located at Av. Yaxchilán No. 21, Supermanzana 18, starting at 8:00 a.m.
Project Details and Scope
The Cancún Multimodal Terminal is one of nine such facilities planned along the 1,553-kilometer Maya Train route. The terminal will include:
- A hazardous waste storage area
- Housing for the National Guard and train crews
- A Tetra antenna
- A customs office or fiscalized zone
- A weigh station
- Public-access warehouses
- Vehicle and pedestrian access gates
- Elevated railway control and surveillance booths
- A water tank and pump room
- Security locker rooms
- Electrical transformer and substation rooms
- A fire station
- A locomotive workshop parking area
- Landscaped gardens
- Administrative offices
- A maneuvering yard
- A wastewater treatment plant (PTAR)
- A water purification plant
- An intermodal platform
- A conservation area
- A locomotive refueling zone
- A locomotive washing area
- Roadways with sidewalks and curbs
Purpose of the Public Meeting
The meeting aims to provide the public with technical and environmental details of the project, including potential impacts, risks, and proposed mitigation measures. Representatives from Tren Maya, S.A. de C.V. will address questions and concerns raised during the session. SEMARNAT’s General Directorate of Environmental Impact and Risk will also gather feedback as part of the public consultation process.
