Cancún, Quintana Roo — Residents in two neighborhoods of Cancún reported a vandalism spree early Thursday morning, with multiple parked cars found with windows smashed by large rocks.
Neighbors in the Supermanzanas 510 and 516 areas said several vehicles parked on public streets had their windshields and windows vandalized overnight. Security camera footage from a local home captured a red vehicle driving through the streets around 5:00 a.m., with occupants throwing rocks at cars.
Witnesses who provided accounts said the perpetrators appeared to act without a clear pattern, leading them to believe it was a random act of vandalism. Residents notified local police and demanded increased patrols in these neighborhoods. No arrests have been reported so far, but the investigation remains open to identify those responsible.
Affected residents said the damage involves high repair costs that owners must cover themselves. Some noted the attack seemed to lack an obvious motive.
In an effort to prevent further incidents and alert authorities to suspicious activity, neighbors have begun organizing nighttime patrols to monitor the streets.
