Residents Chase Down Suspected Drunk Driver After Crash in Playa del Carmen
Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Residents chased down and helped police arrest a suspected drunk driver Monday night after he crashed into two vehicles and injured a minor in the Villas del Sol neighborhood.
According to witnesses, the driver first hit a parked car and fled. A short distance later, near the fifth park, he struck a second vehicle.
Neighbors who saw the crashes began pursuing the driver to prevent him from escaping. The chase ended at the intersection of Avenida Constituyentes and Calle Lakk, where they intercepted him.
Municipal police and traffic officers arrived at the scene and arrested the driver, identified as Carmelo, who appeared to be intoxicated.
The crash left a minor with minor injuries and two vehicles with significant damage. Carmelo was turned over to the State Prosecutor’s Office, where his legal status will be determined Monday.
