Residents Block Valladolid-Felipe Carrillo Puerto Highway Over CFE Power Outages

Residents block the Valladolid-Felipe Carrillo Puerto highway with barricades to protest CFE power outages

Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Quintana Roo — A group of residents from the community of Santa Rosa blocked the federal highway connecting Valladolid and Felipe Carrillo Puerto on Saturday night, protesting constant power outages by the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE).

The blockade brought traffic to a complete standstill in both directions, leaving buses, cargo trucks, and private vehicles stranded. Authorities urged travelers to take extreme precautions and expect significant delays.

The protest began after nightfall, when families fed up with repeated blackouts that damage appliances and leave them without electricity in sweltering heat decided to take direct action. They demanded the immediate presence of CFE executives and engineers to address the ongoing failures in the electrical distribution network.

Demonstrators made clear they would not remove the barricades or reopen the federal road until CFE crews arrive in Santa Rosa and offer a definitive solution to the power supply issues, which have been worsening in recent weeks.
