Cozumel, Quintana Roo — Deputy Renán Sánchez Tajonar has emphasized that the construction of a fourth pier in Cozumel lacks the necessary permits and authorizations, confirming that any work under these conditions would be illegal, according to the Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT).

A Victory for Cozumel’s Residents

"This is a triumph for the people of Cozumel, who have united beyond political parties or affiliations to defend their home, their reef, and their future. Here, money does not rule. The people rule," stated the legislator and leader of the Green Party.

In this context, he directly urged the companies involved not to risk their investments in an unauthorized project.

"Before thinking about cement, think about the reef. Before thinking about profits, think about Cozumel," added the deputy and leader of the Green Party.

Sánchez Tajonar noted that citizen opposition has been crucial in halting the project and reiterated that any action disregarding the will of Cozumel’s residents would not only be disrespectful but also unlawful.

"To those who wish to join, we say: wait, participate, listen. Development will only be legitimate if it arises from the consensus of the people," affirmed Sánchez Tajonar.

Finally, the lawmaker reaffirmed his commitment to environmental protection and citizen-led causes that prioritize the life, identity, and future of Cozumel.
