ISLA MUJERES, Q. Roo — Municipal President Atenea Gómez has inaugurated rehabilitation work on the Hacienda Mundaca, an emblematic site in Isla Mujeres. The project, aimed at preserving the municipality's historical and cultural patrimony, will soon allow the hacienda to reopen its doors to local families and visitors.
The inauguration event took place on the esplanade of the Hacienda Mundaca. During the event, Atenea Gómez stated that this new project fulfills a commitment to rescue the Hacienda Mundaca, a site full of history and nature that will add to the tourist attractions of Isla Mujeres.
The island's mayor emphasized that this project represents a comprehensive effort to rescue and conserve an invaluable patrimony, promoting the identity and pride of the island community. The rehabilitation includes a general cleaning of the areas, reconstruction of pathways, delimitation of historical elements, rehabilitation of bathrooms and the open-air theater, and the installation of informational signage.
Furthermore, a wooden tower for bird watching will be constructed, strengthening the natural and touristic value of the Hacienda. These actions are part of the Annual Investment Program for the 2025 fiscal year and will be carried out with funds from the Environmental Sanitation Right.
The municipal president indicated that the Hacienda Mundaca, currently in a state of deterioration due to exposure to environmental factors and the passage of time, did not have the adequate conditions to receive tourists safely. The intervention will allow for the preservation of its original structures and the recovery of spaces for recreation and family gatherings.
