Quintana Roo’s Judicial Elections to be Politically Transparent

Jorge Sanén Cervantes, Chairman of the Board of Government and Political Coordination (Jugocopo) of the XVIII Legislature of the Congress of Quintana Roo, has confirmed that the upcoming reform for the election of new judges and magistrates will be safeguarded against political interference. The aim is to ensure that only the most qualified individuals are elected to these positions.

The election process will be conducted by citizens and decided by popular vote. Cervantes emphasized that political parties will not be permitted to propose candidates or exert any influence on the election outcome.

However, the specifics of the reform, including the secondary laws that will complement it, are yet to be revealed. Information about the total number of positions that will be subject to popular vote is also pending.

The Electoral Institute of Quintana Roo (IEQROO) will be responsible for organizing the extraordinary election process, as it falls under state jurisdiction. The Institute will collaborate with the National Electoral Institute (INE) to manage the logistics of the democratic procedure.
