Cancún, Quintana Roo — Restaurants in Quintana Roo are expecting a significant boost in business this weekend as Valentine’s Day falls on a Saturday, potentially marking the sector’s first major weekend of the year following the typical post-holiday slowdown.

Perla Flores Navarro, the newly appointed president of the National Chamber of the Restaurant and Seasoned Food Industry (Canirac) in Cancún, said the extended weekend could lead to increased customer traffic starting Friday evening and continuing through Sunday.

“We expect a weekend, during specific hours, with full occupancy in the majority of our restaurants,” Flores Navarro added.

She noted that some establishments could reach 100 percent occupancy, while others may come close to that figure. Many restaurants, particularly in tourist areas, have already prepared special packages, offers, and dishes for the occasion, with menus adjusted according to each establishment’s ingredient and operational costs.

The industry group has launched a campaign in recent days to promote restaurants as an ideal option for Valentine’s Day celebrations.

This weekend could represent the sector’s first major revenue event of 2026, as last Sunday’s Super Bowl did not provide uniform economic benefits across all restaurant types. According to Julio Villarreal Zapata, president of Canirac in Quintana Roo, only sports bars saw occupancy rates between 80 and 100 percent during the game, while conventional restaurants averaged between 45 and 60 percent.
