Chetumal, Quintana Roo — In response to citizen complaints about the requirement to register with the State Taxpayer Registry (REC) to complete the 2026 License Plate Renewal, authorities of the Quintana Roo Government have determined that the procedure can now be carried out solely with the Unique Population Registry Code (CURP).
Cristina Torres Gómez, Secretary of Government for the State of Quintana Roo, announced that the decision was made to expedite the 2026 License Plate Renewal and the vehicle registration renewal, which occurs every three years and began on January 2 of this year.
She specified that vehicle owners can complete the 2026 License Plate Renewal using only their CURP, without needing to present the Tax Administration Service (SAT) Tax Status Certificate, and without subsequent penalties.
Torres Gómez stated that this measure directly benefits those seeking to comply with these legal obligations and eliminates one of the main bottlenecks that caused confusion and congestion at collection modules in some municipalities of the state.
She dismissed reports about possible sanctions or forced future deadlines to comply with the State Taxpayer Registry (REC) within a six-month period.
She indicated that in the coming days, modules will be set up at collection offices to assist taxpayers with CURP registration if they do not have one, so they can complete their file. Therefore, having a Federal Taxpayer Registry (RFC) is no longer an indispensable requirement to complete the 2026 License Plate Renewal process.
“No one will be left without completing this procedure, neither today nor in six months. The state system is already prepared to operate under this scheme, and license plates are being delivered immediately,” emphasized Torres Gómez.
She added that while the REC is used for billing and tax verification purposes, it is not an additional requirement to condition access to the procedure, but rather an internal administrative mechanism. She reiterated that citizens will not be punished or fined for not presenting the federal document.
